After the launch of the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) under NEP 2020, now students can opt for online courses and earn credits. The platform through which this is possible is SWAYAM. It expands to Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds.
SWAYAM is India’s national Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) platform. This platform seeks to achieve three cardinal principles of Indian education policy. The three principles are:
According to the University Grants Commission (Credit Framework for Online Courses through Study Webs of Active learning for young aspiring minds) Regulations, 2021, institutions are allowed to offer 40% of the total courses in the semester by online course learning through the SWAYAM platform.
With the approval of the competent authority, now universities can adopt SWAYAM courses for the benefit of students. Students will have the option of earning credit after completing the quality assured MOOC programmes offered through SWAYAM or any other educational platform approved by UGC/regulatory body from time to time.
